Pouring a dark garnet hue that’s become synonymous with the 2018 vintage, this wine offers an ideal marriage of dried fruit and spice. An alluring aromatic profile is rounded out by wild strawberry, cardamom, sage and a hint of leather. Rustic and well-integrated tannins support a palate of ripe black cherry, tobacco leaf and dried herbs. Touting tremendous texture and a supple build upon release, this wine will only improve over the next several years. Cellar up to 15 years.
This wine marks our 17th vintage from the famed Ciel du Cheval Vineyard on Red Mountain, one of the oldest and most proven vineyards in the Northwest. Each varietal was picked and vinified separately and blended early during the winter following harvest. The wine then went back to barrel for an additional year and a half before bottling. We believe that this early assemblage allows for the wine to be less a composed wine of its varietal parts and more a cohesive, singular representation of place.
