2016 Cabernet Franc, Walla Walla Valley
91 points, Vinous
We’ve worked with Cabernet Franc as a blending varietal in our Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pentad (our top cuvée) for two decades. This bottling comes from our McClellan Estate Vineyard and Summit View Vineyard on the south end of the Walla Walla Valley. This wine captures the varietal character of Cabernet Franc while also expressing the vineyards’ deep silt-loam terroir. It shows a dark ruby color with a nose of tobacco leaf, spice, red fruits, dried herb, mint, and a faint earthiness. The palate is generous with ripe raspberry and blueberry fruits, broadly integrated tannins, and a long, elegant finish. The wine drinks well now and should age nicely for an additional 4-6 years from vintage.
